  2. IRIX 6.5 Applications, May 2002

  5. The IRIX 6.5 Applications CD, May 2002, is a companion to IRIX 6.5.16.
  6. This CD contains the IRIX Desktop and various desktop applications.  It 
  7. replaces all previous IRIX 6.5 Applications CDs (June 1998 through November
  8. 2001).
  9.  
  10. Application upgrades shipped with IRIX release are either Full images or 
  11. Overlays.  Updates to Full images are found on the Applications CD whereas 
  12. updated Overlays are found on the IRIX 6.5.16 Overlays, May 2002 CD.
  13. Additional applications can be found on the Base IRIX 6.5.16 CDs. To
  14. install the new versions of Overlay applications you must install IRIX 6.5.16.  
  15.  
  16. IMPORTANT 6.5.16 Apps CD NOTE:
  17. Because the .related_dists file has been removed from the IRIX
  18. 6.5.16 Apps CD distribution, users may not be aware of the
  19. /CDROM/dist/dev and /CDROM/dist/extras directories.  To access 
  20. these use the open option in Software Manager.

  38. Other Changes
  39. -------------
  40.   * License Tools changed from being an overlay image to being a full image.
  41.   * Several IRIX products have been retired and removed from the
  42.     Applications CD. These products are IRISAnnotator, InPerson, PeoplePages,
  43.     and SGI Photoshop Performance Pack.
  44.   * Two Isogon products (formerly Gradient Technologies),
  45.     LicensePower/iFOR IS4.0.1 CRK and LicensePower/iFOR IS4.0.1 ARK
  46.     have been removed from the IRIX Applications CD.  Customers interested
  47.     in updates to these products should contact Isogon directly.
  48.   * Netscape FastTrack Server has also been removed from the IRIX
  49.     Applications CD.  This product's functionality has been superseded
  50.     by SGI Web Server based on Apache.  Customers with previous versions of 
  51.     Netscape FastTrack Server from 6.5 and above can continue to 
  52.     use the product.

  54. Important Notes About the Products
  55. ----------------------------------
  56. Netscape Communicator Client
  57. Netscape Communicator Client 4.79 is part of the default distribution
  58. on this CD. Customers who only use the browser functionality (and
  59. not the email, newsgroups, etc.) may prefer to install the Netscape
  60. Navigator Client (netscape_lite) 4.79. From Software Manager, open 
  61. /CDROM/dist/extras to install this product.  
  62.  
  63. Beginning with Netscape 4.75 the default browser is compiled N32 so 
  64. existing Third party Netscape plugins will not work with the new N32 
  65. browser. Several plugins do exist in N32 versions.  Depending on 
  66. which plugins you depend on you may want to install the O32 version 
  67. of the browser.  These are in non-default installed subsystems of 
  68. netscape and netscape_lite.

  70. Release Notes
  71. -------------
  72. If you choose to read the release notes for products before installing 
  73. new products, you can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager.  
  74. From the desktop Toolchest choose System, then Software Manager.  This
  75. will bring up the Software Manager window.  Choose to Customize Installation
  76. but typing /CDROM/dist into the Available Software box.  A list of products 
  77. available for installation will come up.  If the product name is highlighted 
  78. (similar to an HTML link) then there are Release Notes available.  Simply click on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
